The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) offers graduate programs leading to the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science. Graduate instruction and research programs are available in all areas of importance in electrical engineering. The graduate program is tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual student. Students choose their area of specialization from the following:
· Information Systems
· Computer Engineering
· Electronic Circuits
· Optoelectronics
· RF, Micro- and Millimeter Waves
· Physical Electronics
· Systems and Control
The research and education activities in ECEGP are interdisciplinary and have strong synergy with other departments and programs on campus, including:
Computer Science Computational Science and Engineering Applied Science Biophotonics Program Biomedical Engineering Chemical Engineering and Materials Science
Candidates in the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in ECE are expected to make an original and significant contribution to knowledge in a specialized area. The ECE PhD program consists of passing a preliminary PhD evaluation, an individualized program of study, performing satisfactorily on a qualifying examination and completing a research dissertation. Please refer to the Ph.D. Degree Requirements for more details.
ECEGP offers two types of Masters of Science (MS) degrees. Plan I requires the completion of a thesis; Plan II requires additional coursework and an examination. Plan I gives the student an opportunity to perform in-depth research and thesis writing, whereas Plan II provides more information from coursework. Please refer to the M.S. Degree Requirements for more details.
